On June 14, 1777, to establish an official flag for the new nation, the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act. Established that the US Flag be made of thirteen alternating stripes of red and white, the union be thirteen stars on a blue field to represent a new Constellation.
Today, the American flag consists of thirteen stripes, seven red and six white alternating representing the original thirteen colonies. Fifty stars representing the fifty states in the Union.

Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice!
